Yellow sapphire and rose-cut diamond drop earrings, c1850
These beautiful earrings were made in France about 150 years ago. The metal is 18K gold and sterling silver. During this era, diamonds were usually set in silver because it was easier to work with. Each earring has two yellow sapphires… one larger and darker and one small round one at the top of the hanging section. The style is feminine and very French.
Rose-cut diamonds have become very collectable in recent years. You’ll see that these are classic early rose-cuts with no table (flat top). Each is a different shape and has carbon inclusions, which is typical. But that doesn’t stop them from sparkling. The silver can be polished, but we left them unpolished for now, as many collectors prefer this look. Either way is fine.
