Marcasite hoop earrings, c1880
These bold geometric marcasite hoops are an unusual find for 19th century jewelry. With marcasite set it two rows, facing front and toward the outside, you get sparkle from every angle. The metal is silver, but not sterling.
The unique design of these earrings has an almost machine-age quality, with circular mountings in perfect symmetry. Yet it was totally hand made in an era when frills and flowers were common motifs. The artist was truly ahead of his time. These earrings have an unusually modern look.
Condition: Excellent. They have the normal patina one would expect. They can be cleaned, but most collectors would leave them as they are.
Measurements: They are 2.5 inches in length. The large hoop measures 1.25 inch. Total weight: 15g.
