Japanese influence, French silvered bronze crane lamp, c1910

This fabulous aesthetic movement French lamp (single lamp) was influenced by the artwork that had been coming out of Japan since 1868. Cranes and bamboo were popular motifs in Japanese art and were being incorporated into many European designs at this time. This lamp, styled with meticulous details shows a crane standing on a water lily leaf with a bamboo branch holding up the light. It was cast in bronze and gilt in silver. Most of the silver has worn off, and the sculpture is now mostly bonze with a wonderful patina. The lamp was rewired in France for the U.S. market and fitted with a beautiful micro-fiber shade that complements the base.

Pictures hardly do this lamp justice. Many people don’t notice this lamp right away in our store. But once they do, they are taken with the beauty and workmanship. It needs to be on a table next to a chair or sofa to be seen at the right angle. It would be especially wonderful in an environment with neutral colors.

Condition: Excellent.

Measurements: The entire lamp is 28 inches high. The shade, which is the widest part, is 18 inches in diameter. The crane stands 14 inches high.
