Primitive metal catfish sculpture on marble base, mid 20th century
An unknown French artist meticulously crafted this amazing and naive catfish sculpture. Anchored to a cube of marble, it looks like it’s jumping out of the water. The details are just wonderful… texture on the body and fins, careful sculpting of the head, the whiskers and even the tongue.
What a great conversation piece… and what a great gift for a fisherman. (Keep out of reach of small children. Those whiskers are pointy.)
Condition: Excellent.
Measurements: The top of the fish head is 10 inches high. The base is 3.5 inches square. The longest whisker measures about 16.5 inches from the tip of the nose.
