Rare 19th century Isle of Man souvenir powder box
This little souvenir powder box is just a treasure. The container is glass, which has been acid-etched on the outside. The top is a lovely shade of violet porcelain with a delicate line drawing of the emblem of the Isle of Man… three bent legs joined by fig leaves. (The fig leaf is a bit of artist license.) Over the top it reads, “A present from the Isle of Man.” The jar rim and hinge are brass.
This would be a lovely dresser accessory, with or without the powder. These aren’t that easy to come by anymore. Unfortunately the top has a crack on the edge, but it’s a lovely piece and quite useful.
Condition: Good.
Measurements: The jar measures 2.75 in diameter.
