Art deco Chinese black & white cloisonné dog, c1930

20th century Chinese art and antiques don’t tend to interest the most serious collectors. But cloisonné animals from the 1930 have almost disappeared from the market. The Chinese had a very distinctive way of interpreting the art deco style and creating items like this wonderful pooch. He’s about the size of a small dog. He has a lovely deco-style copper-wire design hand welded to his metal body. The enamel that was used is entirely black and white, with the exception of his red nostrils and pale yellow tits. He has a few noticeable repairs on him but nothing that takes away from his charm.

He has a wonderful presence. His anatomy and attitude are very lifelike. And the fact that he’s more or less life size makes him more important.

Condition: Very good. There are some noticeable repairs but nothing distracting.

Measurements: He is about 15 inches tall.

Price: $1,350.00
