Huge Murano glass jardinière, with gold dust, style of Seguso or Barbini, c1970
This is an unsigned case-glass jardinière made in three sections (they don’t come apart). The top and bottom sections both have puffs of gold inclusions. The gold inclusions on the top section look like rose gold, while the bottom section has darker gold inclusions that are subtler. Most of the color is tones of rich reddish brown. The middle section is almost black. We are reluctant to put a date on it because of the size. It has a bit of normal wear on the base, but we don’t think it was made before 1970.
This is a very large, dramatic and heavy piece. It would make a fabulous display on a console or in the center of a large table. The quality of the workmanship is superb, and the colors are just beautiful. In good light you can appreciate the richness of the multiple layers of glass.
Condition: Mint.
