Silver, copper and crushed turquoise linked choker necklace, Mexico c1950
This is a very flattering and interesting necklace. Many Mexican pieces tend to be on the heavy and bold side. This one, by contrast, has a look that’s mitigated by the use of other metals and a compound of crushed turquoise. The back is sterling. But each section is outlined in brass, and the seven front sections have stylized animals made of copper. There is a lot of work in this piece. The makers initials “LB” are on the back, along with the sterling marks, etc. LB is a listed maker, but not identified in our references.
This necklace is both simple and complex. It has beautiful lines from a distance, but when you look at it more closely, you see all the wonderful details. The stylization of the animals is very special… along with the workmanship to create them. This necklace has a great summer look, but it’s also quite versatile.
Condition: Excellent.
Measurements: The necklace length is 16 inches. It measures 0.85 inches in width and weighs 53g.
