Amber-color rhinestone and faux pearl choker necklace, c1940
Although unsigned, this is a very well made and high quality rhinestone necklace. Just by feeling it you can tell. The only prong-set stones are the large amber colored drops. The prongs are substantial and smooth. The clear rhinestones and the pearls are incorporated into depressions in the setting. Run your fingers over them. You won’t feel a single snag. That’s always the sign of a well-made piece. There are no missing stones, and the clear rhinestones are all clean with little yellowing or clouding. The catch is so well concealed in the necklace that you may get frustrated trying to find it. (Hint: it has four rhinestones instead of three.)
Unsigned jewelry from the mid 20th century is quite common. Some of it is almost as collectable as the signed pieces. When the quality and the design are first rate, the signature is just the icing on the cake.
