Large leather and canvas Wings suitcase in the Louis Vuitton style, c1965
Wings was once a very high-end, stylish manufacturer of luggage. In the 1950s and 60s they came out with a line that looks very much like the Louis Vuitton line that has became so popular. Apparently, their marketing efforts fell short and they never achieved the cachet of the LV brand, even though their quality was comparable. In the 80s they were purchased by Mavado watches in an attempt to expand into luggage. Now they are the high-end collection of Hartmann Luggage.
This almost unused suitcase is from the last of their two-decade span as a chic and prestigious luggage maker. It has been used no more than twice… never been on an airplane. Any discoloration in the leather is from sitting in a closet. Otherwise the suitcase is in perfect condition, no strange smells or nicks. Hartmann makes a similar looking suitcase today in a hard-sided version. They sell for around $2,000. Traveling (by car) with this stylish suitcase should give its new owner a great deal of satisfaction.
