Ercole Barovier style Murano glass, gold-flecked perfume bottle with stopper, c1950
This beautiful, controlled-bubble, gold-flecked, twisted, fluted perfume bottle is an amazing piece. Barovier was known to have done pieces like this, but they were usually sold with paper labels, so they are not signed in the glass. The piece is so beautiful that it doesn’t need a signature to be appreciated. Controlling all the special effects in this one bottle is a true art.
The stopper is said to be original, it fits… and we have seen other decorated bottles with clear stoppers, but we’re not fully convinced. It’s handmade and doesn’t detract from the bottle. People rarely bought these perfume bottles to hold perfume… usually just to decorate a boudoir or bathroom.
