Pulegoso mixed-color Murano glass bowl with rolled edge, c1950
Irregular bubbles swirl out from the center of this beautiful Murano glass bowl. Mottled sections of red, yellow and green divide the bowl into three parts. The colors are encased in layers of clear glass. The combination of colors and the transitions between them provide wonderful visual appeal. The flattened bottom shows multiple scuffs from age and use, but no damage. There is no signature.
This whimsical bowl is nicely eye catching. Rather than a tame, orderly show of color, it has a circus of bubbles and color. It would be a wonderful accent in an area of muted color or a nice mix with primary colors. Unlike some colored glass pieces, this bowl has enough transparency that it does not have to be in direct light to be appreciated.
