Very rare Yvolot silver, gold and French paste cross necklace, c1880
This fabulous cross necklace was made in Paris for a shop in Yvolot, a town in the Normandy region of France. Yvolot pieces have a distinct style that is always recognizable, but few of them remain today intact. This necklace is complete. Rather than a clasp, it should be tied with a ribbon, although a loop was added at some point. The primary metal is silver, but the centers of each link and the cross is gold. The silver and gold would have more contrast if polished, but most collectors prefer the patina. The ends are fully hallmarked.
As beautiful as this necklace is on its own, it is even more spectacular on. It would have been worn with a low-cut dress, and it sits beautifully. The color of the crystals and the patina are so mellow, they are amazingly flattering.
Condition: Excellent. Several ribbons will be provided to give the wearer a choice.
Measurements: From end to end the necklace measures 15.5 inches. The length can be adjusted by tying the ribbon longer. The cross is 2 inches in length.
