Rare French steel-cut on 18K gold drop earrings, c1825
The gems you see are actually cut steel. These are extremely difficult to find today, as they haven’t been made since around 1825. Most of them have either rusted, been destroyed or both. These three disks of steel-cut gems have been mounted and connected by 18K gold… a nice touch as the steel and gold have a rich look together.
These are highly sought after by collectors of rare jewelry. And it’s even more unusual to find steel-cut jewels that are so stylish. The simplicity of this design makes these earrings as wearable today as they were 200 years ago. And just think of the history these have seen.
Condition: Mint. The gold connections were probably added later, but not recently.
Measurements: They measure 2.5 inches from the top of the hook to the bottom of the drop. Total weight: 16g.
