Signature Hour Lavigne quartz clock with circular face, French, c1950
In 1848 Charles Hour and Maurice Lavigne took over a prestigious clock workshop and launched the production of very high-end and stylish handmade clocks. The quartz clock was invented in the 1920s, and since the mid 20th century, Hour Lavigne has been offering clocks with either quartz or mechanical movements. A trademark of an Hour Lavigne clock is the innovative styling and the use of precious materials, such as mother-of-pearl, precious stones and exotic woods. All the metals in the clock are solid brass, plated in 24K gold. Each clock is handmade to order for a specific customer who chooses the materials, style and details of the clock he/she orders. Hour Lavigne clocks are not well known outside of France because they are produced individually and in very limited editions.
These clocks rarely come on the antiques market because of they are produced in such limited quantity. Each one is a work of art and a treasure to own. An article about the company, which features this particular clock, will be provided with this clock. Obviously, this style clock isn’t for everyone. You have to get used to reading the time because the format is unusual. But it does keep time perfectly, as you’d expect from a clock of this quality.
