Choker necklace of pale pink fresh-water baroque pearls, Takashimaya NY c1990
The jewelry department of Takashimaya New York has just about the nicest collections of artist-made jewelry around. Their selection ranges from high-end costume jewelry to very unique and special fine jewelry. This wonderful choker necklace was purchased there around 1990. You have to look closely to figure out why it hangs so nicely. It has two strands on silk cord, and every other pearl has a twisted silver extension. This way, the pearls don’t hang in a straight line but seem to have a scattered arrangement. It’s a wonderful delicate look and very feminine. The clasp is marked “Sterling” and has the artist’s logo.
The pink is actually a very pale peach color. It’s a perfect complement to light or summer colors. It also goes beautifully with black or white and could be worn for dress or casual use.
