Large French sterling silver cream serving spoon, La Belle Époque details buy

Large French sterling silver cream serving spoon, La Belle Époque, c1880

In the 1800s, there was a silver utensil for every purpose. Need to serve cream? This is the right spoon. Every detail, front and back exudes luxury and style. And it’s not timid. This is a large and impressive statement of elegance. And what a beauty it is… scrollwork adorns the top of the handle against a stippled matte finish. Then the long thin handle is ornamented with fish scales alternating with tiny flower designs. The interesting shape bowl is finished with gold vermeil, which hardly has a scratch on it. The Minerva hallmark indicates that the silver content is 950. And the maker’s mark is almost readable, but not quite. There is a monogram on the back of the handle, but that is also unreadable.

This is a silver-serving piece that is very easy to repurpose. Vegetables, fruit and ice cream would all be good possible ways to use this spoon. Just avoid foods that would scratch the gold vermeil or require serious scrubbing afterwards.

Condition: Excellent.

Measurements: This spoon measures 10.5 inches and weighs 97g.
