Rare Japanese lacquer panel with warrior frogs in ivory & mother-of-pearl, 1700s
The panel was originally part of a screen or piece of furniture. As we understand it, there were four panels, all with warrior frogs in different poses. It’s Japanese, probably pre-Edo era. (If I find additional information on this piece, I’ll update this description.) The frogs are really wonderful. They are made of meticulously carved ivory and mother of pearl. Their poses are quite charming. There are just a few pieces of the carvings missing, but the panel is so old that it really doesn’t distract from its charm.
In our store, this panel attracts many positive comments. You can see from the back that the panel has been hanging on a wall. It would make a wonderful wall hanging. If you’d like, we can have our framer wire it for that purpose in a way that won’t damage the panel.
Condition: Excellent for its age.
Measurements: The panel front is 14 by 24 inches. The panel is 0.75 inches thick not counting the cross bars.
Price: $3,300.00
