Signed French art nouveau bronze inkwell and pen, bird and branch motif, c1880
This one is the ultimate for collectors of art nouveau animals, bronzes or inkwells. It’s artist signed “OK” but we were unable to match that with an artist. The sculpture of the birds and branch are naturalistic, but stylized in a distinct art nouveau style. The birds have ivory beaks. The ivory pen, with the branch motif, is such a perfect match that we’re keeping them together. They were both made in France around the same time. The glass liner is missing from the inkwell. These were generally not made to match the inkwell and were simply replaced when they got broken.
As a desk accessory or as a collector’s piece, this is a real standout object.
Condition: Excellent. The missing glass liner is not an issue. The ivory pen does have some hairline cracks (more noticeable in the photographs than in person), but the condition of it is excellent for its age.
Measurements: The inkwell is 10 inches wide, 4.5 inches deep and 3 inches high. The pen, which is perfectly proportioned to the inkwell is 8 inches long.
