Articulated mixed metal fish, sterling & copper, signed G. Laffi, Peru, 1940

Articulated fish have been made in many countries with many purposes… some have removable parts so that items, like medicines or scents, could be kept inside. Others were purely art, as this one is. It was handcrafted by Graziela Laffi, an Italian artist who lived and worked in Peru. Laffi’s jewelry comes on the market from time to time, but large pieces like this fish are much more rare. Every section is hand hammered and individually fitted. He has a primitive look about him, but that’s a deliberate aspect of the artist’s vision. The mixed metal, which has become very desirable, makes him especially appealing.

This wonderful fish has it all… original and beautiful design, well-known artist, excellent workmanship and great personality! He’d make a perfect gift for a fisherman or animal lover. He’s big enough to make a real statement wherever you put him.

Condition: Excellent. He obviously has patina. He can be cleaned with silver paste from time to time without much danger of removing too much patina from the copper.

Measurements: This fish measures 14.5 inches in length.
