Articulated crayfish in 800 silver, Austria, c1950
Articulated fish have been made in many countries with many purposes… some have removable parts so that items, like medicines or scents, could be stored inside. Others were purely art. This wonderful crayfish was handcrafted in Austria in the mid 20th century as a pure art object. The metal is 800 silver… which Austrians often preferred because it wasn’t as soft as sterling.
The tail section and claws are totally articulated. While it’s quite lifelike, it also has some artistic designs to give it more interest. It’s a good size piece and makes a great conversation item. It’s a good gift for a fisherman or a seafood lover!
Condition: Mint.
Measurements: The body of the crayfish is 10.5 inches; the claws and tentacles add another 5 inches for a total length of 15.5 inches.
